10th Mountain Division Hut Association
Hut to Hut Skiing & Biking Adventures in the Colorado Mountains
10th Mountain Division Hut Association has a mission to build and maintain for public use a mountain hut system that promotes understanding and appreciation of the natural environment while developing individual self-reliance. The goal of providing warm and comfortable shelter at affordable prices has grown to encompass an educational approach to increase awareness and stewardship of the forest.
10th Mountain owns and manages, for public use, 14 backcountry huts located in the area of Aspen, Leadville and Vail and handles reservations for 18 other huts located in the same region. Special use groups such as school children, senior citizens, youth and outdoor groups, and others enjoy the huts at reduced or forgiven rates as part of 10th Mountain's Backcountry Exploration Program. Over 50,000 people mostly from Colorado and surrounding states used the system in 2007. 10th Mountain's balanced operating budget and endowment allow for proper maintenance, affordability, and donor confidence.
Our name honors the men of 10th Mountain Division of the U.S. Army, who trained during World War II at Camp Hale in central Colorado. Hut visitors share the special spirit of these individuals, especially their pursuit of excellence, self reliance, and love of the outdoors.
We hope you find our online store useful, but most of all we hope you enjoy the huts!
